In Character Match Rules
Fights are conducted according to the following Rules System, which allows for all martial art styles to compete together. All fighters are required to sign a physical waiver as well as a contract stating that they will follow these rules before they are allowed to compete in the ring. Under our system, fighters are allowed to employ virtually all manner of strikes, kicks, throws, submission techniques or any combination thereof to win the match. In certain instances, weapons are also permitted. The rules and regulations are as follows:

WEIGHT CATEGORIES

There are three weight catagories. Men and women compete in all weight divisions.

Lightweight Division: Under 180 lbs
Middleweight Division: Under 205 lbs
Heavyweight Division: Above 205 lbs

Weigh-In
Official weigh-ins will be conducted 24 hours prior to the contest at a time and site designated by the committee. The weigh-in will be conducted under the supervision of the Rules Director. Each fighter must be present for his weigh-in. If the fighter misses his weigh-in, he will be disqualified from the competition. In the case that the fighter is the champion, he will be stripped of his title.

If the fighter fails the weigh-in, he will be re-weighed within 4 hours. He can be re-weighed as many times as required. However, the weigh-in deadline will be at 10:00 AM on the morning of the fight. If the fighter has not passed his weigh-in examination by that time, he will be disqualified from the match. In the case that the fighter is the champion, he will be stripped of his title.

In the event that an opponent is disqualified because he did not make weight, an alternate opponent will take his place to compete in the fight.

BOUT DURATION and VICTORY CONDITIONS

Matches will continue without stoppage until the referee declares a winner. A match will only end under one of the following conditions:

Knock Out
A fighter falls from a blow and is either unconscious or unable to immediately continue.

Technical Knock Out
A fighter is injured significantly enough that he or she can no longer continue to fight.

Submission
A fighter clearly taps on the mat or his opponent or verbally submits.

Ring Out
A fighter is knocked or thrown out of the ring.

Death
A fighter falls, whether by blow or weapon, and dies.

REFEREE INTERVENTION

The referee shall exercise immediate authority, direction, and control over the fight to which he has been designated, and it shall be his responsibility to enforce the rules and regulations governing all bouts.

The referee shall have the authority to stop the fight and make a decision, pursuant to the regulations, during any stage of the fight, if any of the contenders is in such condition that he or she is no longer to compete at an acceptable level.

The referee may call a break in the match and separate the contestants under the following conditions:

When both fighters are in the standing clinch position and the fight is deadlocked without any effective action.

When both fighters reach a stalemate on the ground and do not work to improve position, escape, or finish their opponent, it is at the discretion of the referee to separate the fighters and return them to a standing position.

If a fighter falls to his guard or is put on his back, he will be stood back up, unless the standing fighter engages him. If the standing fighter wants the downed fighter back on his feet, he should back off and allow for him to stand up.

In the case that both fighters fall or move out of the contest area, the referee shall call "Don't Move." Both fighters must stop all movement and wait for the referee to direct them to the center of the ring, where they will resume the fight in the same position. If the fighters move outside the contest area, the referee will direct them to return to the middle of the contest area and resume fighting in the same position as designated by the referee.

In case a contestant suffers a significant injury which the referee considers to be debilitating to the point that the fight cannot continue, the referee has the authority to stop the fight. The referee must consult with the ring doctor on the seriousness of the wound and the ability of the damaged fighter to continue the contest. The attending doctor shall give his advice to the referee, but the referee is the only authorized person to stop the contest.

The referee shall use the following commands to direct the pace of the match and signal instructions to the competitors:

Stop. Don't move. When the referee wants the fighters to stop action and return to the center of the ring in the same position.

Break. When the referee wants the fighters to separate.

Stand up. When the referee wants the fighters to return to the standing position.

Fight. When the referee wants the fighters to engage.

Give up. When the referee wants the fighter to signal surrender.

FIGHTER'S ATTIRE

All fighters are prohibited from wearing footwear, gloves, mouthpieces and groin protectors of any kind. Taping and bandaging the fists, fingers, wrists, arms, legs and ankles is allowed. A fighter's hand dressings will be inspected and approved prior to fighting to ensure that they meet match-specific stipulations.

No application of oil, ointment, spray, massaging cream, hair cream, or any other substances are permitted to be applied to any part of the fighter's body and hands before and during the bout. When application of these substances is discovered, the fighter will be disqualified and subject to punishment.

THE CIRCLE

All sanctioned matches take place within The Circle, a circular canvas eight meters in diamater, sitting on a platform three feet off the ground. At the start of the fight, fighters are positioned three meters apart in the center, seperated by the referee. If at any time one fighter is thrown or knocked out of the ring, the match ends immediately.

WEAPONS and CAGE POLICY

On occassions when stipulated by the committee, matches may be fought under ammended rules, including but not limited to the following:

Weapons Match. Fighters are allowed to bring weapons into the ring. Firearms and other projectile-firing weapons are not allowed. Weapons may include knives, daggers, staffs, and clubs.

Cage. In certain situations, a cage is constructed around the ring, made off steel fencing stretched around evenly placed posts. It extends seven feet above the canvas. The cage is used in all weapons matches in order to protect the audience, but is also available as a seperate stipulation to contain fighters and rule out the possibility of a ring-out victory.

ACCEPTANCE

Writers of all skill levels and experience are welcome to join. Characters must be original creations and not based upon any actual person, whether fictional or living. Players are allowed to choose a real person to serve as their character's picture base for graphical purposes. Please be sure to select someone who closely resembles your vision of your character. However, no two characters may use the same picture base, and please be sure the one you wish to use isn't already taken before you fill out an application.

CONTENT

Players are encouraged to write about anything they can imagine, so long as the story centers around their character. There are, however, some limits to this aspect:

1.) Your work should NEVER infringe upon another player's ability to write such as using another player's character without permission, or writing your character into someone else's storyline without permission. Please clear all use of Unleashed's NPCs with a staff member (either Sinn or Jackson) prior to use (this includes both Petrov and Yaponchik).

2.) This is a real world scenario, and as such real world consequences and rules apply. For example, if your character goes on a murdering spree with witnesses, expect to have legal consequences. Also, laws of the real world apply, such as gravity-- which means if your character jumps off the roof of a twenty-story building, odds are they're a greasy splatter on the road. This is not The Matrix, Twilight or Batman. If you choose to write fantasy, please have this grounded in some sort of logic so that you are not negatively impacting the other fighters. Edward Cullen's family won't be fighting in The Circuit, and neither will Peter Parker. Be reasonable, please?

DEADLINE

When submitting stories to be judged for events they must be posted no later than 11:59 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME the night of the event. If an event is scheduled for Saturday night, then all written work must be posted in the appropriate forum, time stamped prior to midnight. In some cases, the deadline can be extended if both parties in the match and staff agree to this. This policy is strictly enforced unless permission is given by the staff.

ROLE-PLAYS

Players are encouraged to write whenever they want and to post stories even when they aren't booked in order to further their own writing. However, when a character is booked for an event, there is a maximum role-play limit of two that will be enforced. If a player chooses, he or she can continue to write, but anything beyond those the player wishes counted must be placed within the General Writing forum.

JUDGING

Submitted writing is evaluated by one or more judges, who base their decisions on several criteria, including grammar, formatting and mechanics. Originality is also very important. Once decided, the judgments are tabulated.

JUDGING CRITERIA
Creativity
* Innovation - Did you show something you haven't done before? Or did you do it better? Was it original?
* Continuity - What kind of consistency is there in your story? Are you building on past references to expand?
* Character Development - Are we seeing any progression/growth/build to the character as a whole?

Attention Holding
Enjoyment Factor- Rather self explanatory, but did your writing make the judges want to keep reading? Does this piece drag in spots? Is it needlessly long just to make it look bigger/better?

And most importantly: unleash your creativity and have fun!
